Gas, lighting and electricityNowadays, there are not a lot of rentals of holiday cabins without electricity. Our cabins RORBUA and NISA are two of them… And trust us: living without electricity is actually no problem and is in fact experienced as an enhancement of the stay here. (Please see quotes from our guest book). The cabin OTER will, however, be connected to the electricity grid from 2012. The reason is that this cabin will be used more by our family than by tourists every year, and for stays of longer duration, like weeks or months, electricity is something that simplifies such long stays. RORBUA and NISA are modern cabins equipped with gas for all energy needs: hot water, shower, fridge, kitchen, heating. Lighting comes from kerosine lamps, battery-driven lamps and candles. The old-fashioned lighting is a particularly important factor in creating the cosy atmosphere described in the quotes here. The guests want this kept as it is! A quote from our guest book: “… thanks to the oil lamps that gave us the beautiful light of our grandfathers!” (Debora and Bernat, Spain). Kerosine lamps and candles give a feeling of escape from the hectic life of modern societies. It’s very simple to use gas equipment and kerosine lamps, and full instructions are given on arrival. Incidentally, it’s only for a period at the end of the summer that you need to think of lighting in the cabins. Remember: This is the Land of the Midnight Sun! The first day of midnight sun is May 14th and the last day is July 29th. After one to two weeks after the midnight sun is gone and nights start getting dark again, there usually starts to be a need for lighting in the evenings. However, as mentioned elsewhere - we are partially replacing gas with electricity. Hopefully this will be completed in the summer of 2012. Welcome for a nice and cosy stay! - and then some more quotes from our guest books: "No electricity needed here. Gas, oil-lamps and candles are an important part of the ‘mood’”. (Vesa and Jenni, Finland). "The fact that there is no electricity makes the atmosphere of the cottage still cosier and warmer”. (Family Castellani-Leone, Italy). "…this cosy “hytte” is so amazingly warm and romantic, with a feeling of home and old times and Christmas all put together”. (Eyal and Ruth, Israel). "All the petrol lights and the candles make the atmosphere warm and romantic. Please, never bring electricity here; keep this unique atmosphere of the cabins. Thanks a lot!” (Kornel and others, Finland).
